Directions
Many organizations finalize their annual budgets and do not meaningfully revisit them until year end. This session focuses on the value of conducting a mid-Q1 budget versus actuals review, with a specific emphasis on the revenue side of the business. Attendees will learn how to assess early-year revenue performance, identify emerging gaps or risks, and determine whether the organization is truly on track to meet its annual goals.
Drawing from real-world law firm and professional services experience, this session will walk through practical techniques for analyzing revenue trends, understanding the drivers behind variances, and implementing targeted course-correction strategies while there is still time to influence outcomes. Participants will leave with actionable tools they can apply immediately within their own organizations.
Learning Objectives
By the end of this session, participants will be able to:
- Understand why a mid-Q1 budget versus actuals review is a critical early warning system for revenue performance
- Identify key revenue metrics and trends to evaluate when comparing budgeted revenue to actual results
- Diagnose common causes of revenue shortfalls or misalignment early in the year
- Apply practical strategies to correct or stabilize revenue performance while preserving long-term goals
- Communicate revenue variances and corrective actions effectively to firm leadership and stakeholders
